Level 1 Blob

In my master’s thesis project, I developed a strategic board game called “Blobs & Clouds,” and the Level 1 Blob represents the game's most fundamental unit. Similar to a pawn in chess, this character might appear simple at first glance, but it plays an essential tactical role during gameplay.

The model was sculpted in ZBrush to capture soft, organic shapes that reflect the character’s playful yet strategic nature. Retopology and UV mapping were done in Maya, ensuring game-ready use. I textured the figure in Substance Painter using a hand-painted style, carefully selecting a color palette inspired by the game's board, which is made up of contrasting light and dark cloud fields. This allows the figure to visually harmonize with the environment while maintaining a strong, recognizable silhouette.

The Level 1 Blob is part of a broader set of unique game pieces, each designed to combine visual identity with specific gameplay functions. This figure marks the starting point of the evolutionary path that each player’s army can take throughout the match.
