In my master’s thesis project, I developed a strategic board game called “Blobs & Clouds,” and the Level 2 Attack Blob is one of three possible evolutions that a Level 1 Blob can transform into. This transformation occurs when a Level 1 Blob moves onto a special evolution field on the board, unlocking new tactical possibilities.
The Attack Blob features an increased attack value, making it a more dangerous unit on the field. To communicate this gameplay upgrade visually, I designed this version with a prominent horn - symbolizing offensive power. As a stylistic contrast to the eyeless Level 1 Blobs, all Level 2 evolutions, including this one, were given a single eye to clearly distinguish their evolved status and hint at increased awareness or focus.
I sculpted the figure in ZBrush, focusing on keeping the organic, rounded forms of the original while adding sharper, more aggressive elements like the horn. The retopology and UV mapping were completed in Maya, and the texturing was done in Substance Painter, using a hand-painted style. The color palette was again derived from the game’s board design, which consists of contrasting light and dark cloud fields - ensuring a consistent yet visually dynamic game world.
This figure is part of a larger collection of game pieces designed to blend stylized visuals with clear, gameplay-driven functionality. The Level 2 Attack Blob introduces an exciting layer of offensive strategy into the evolving battle dynamic of Blobs & Clouds.
