Level 2 Speed Blob – Blobs & Clouds (Board Game Project)

In my master’s thesis project, I developed a strategic board game called “Blobs & Clouds,” and the Level 2 Speed Blob is one of three possible evolutions that a Level 1 Blob can take. This evolution occurs when a Level 1 Blob moves onto a special evolution field on the board.

The Speed Blob is designed for fast movement across the board, allowing players to cover long distances quickly and gain positional advantages. To visually represent this agility and energy, I gave the figure a flowing, beast-like hair structure, suggesting motion and wild speed. Like all Level 2 evolutions, the Speed Blob features a single eye, setting it apart from the eyeless Level 1 Blobs and indicating its advanced form.

The character was sculpted in ZBrush, with special attention to dynamic shapes and directional flow to emphasize movement. Retopology and UV mapping were done in Maya, and the textures were hand-painted in Substance Painter. The color palette is consistent with the game’s visual world, which features a board made of light and dark cloud fields-ensuring stylistic cohesion while making the figure readable at a glance.

As one of three Level 2 options in Blobs & Clouds, the Speed Blob enables highly mobile strategies and quick repositioning, giving players a unique tactical edge.
