Level 3 Speed Blob – Blobs & Clouds (Board Game Project)

As part of my master’s thesis project, I developed a strategic board game called “Blobs & Clouds.” The Level 3 Speed Blob represents the final stage in the mobility-focused evolution path. It evolves from the Level 2 Speed Blob after stepping onto a second evolution field, unlocking its full potential for rapid movement and agile gameplay.

The Speed Blob’s role is to cover large distances in minimal time, enabling players to react quickly, secure objectives, and outmaneuver opponents. To visually convey its unmatched agility, I enhanced the beast-like flowing hair introduced in the Level 2 form, giving it more volume and dynamic direction to suggest constant motion. The two eyes not only indicate its fully evolved status but also symbolize heightened awareness and precision, essential for its high-speed role.

The figure was sculpted in ZBrush, with a focus on fluid, directional shapes that evoke motion even when standing still. Retopology and UV mapping were completed in Maya, and the texturing was done in Substance Painter, following a hand-painted style consistent with the rest of the game’s art. The color palette harmonizes with the cloud-themed board, integrating the unit seamlessly into the game world while keeping it visually distinct on the battlefield.

As the fastest unit in Blobs & Clouds, the Level 3 Speed Blob provides players with exceptional mobility, making it a decisive tool for controlling the pace and positioning of the match.
